I can understand where cussing someone out or using sexually orientated words would be forbidden but I can't understand why you can't quote a person from another website who uses colorful language. Would the use of a little light profanity be that bad a thing? There world isn't all roses and sunshine you know. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lisa Simpson Date : 28th May 2010 11:12 PM Because the forum is meant to be accessed by students and profanity may stop that. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : quarky Date : 28th May 2010 11:35 PM Smegma is dirty enough for me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : commandlinegamer Date : 29th May 2010 01:44 AM I can understand where cussing someone out or using sexually orientated words would be forbidden but I can't understand why you can't quote a person from another website who uses colorful language. Euphemisms are more fun, but it would be nice to have perhaps one unrestricted members' subforum where we could properly display our cunning linguistics. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Senex Date : 29th May 2010 04:32 AM Randi wants it this way. On a personal level I like the restriction. My vocabulary against yours. No swearing gets in the way. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : quarky Date : 29th May 2010 05:28 AM Actually, on some mini-rant I was suffering a few days ago, I noticed that I got away with the word "shittiest". I think I was describing a drug; Ritalin, perhaps. I should have said "poopiest". (sorry) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : UncaYimmy Date : 29th May 2010 08:36 AM The SWIFT blog comments have no such restriction on profanity. You'll even find banned words in the SWIFT entries themselves. Like with other things the JREF "wants" the reasoning rings hollow. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : cienaņos Date : 29th May 2010 08:42 AM What the **** are you asking? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Locknar Date : 29th May 2010 10:33 AM The SWIFT blog comments have no such restriction on profanity. Like with other things the JREF "wants" the reasoning rings hollow.Actually SWIFT itself has no such restriction, and Randi has been known to curse in his articles. None the less, it is he who insisted on the rule for the Forum. Clearly it is a "do as I say, not as I do" paradox, but it is what it is. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Howie Felterbush Date : 29th May 2010 11:21 AM Because it sounds like hell and doesn't do a damn bit of good. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : UncaYimmy Date : 29th May 2010 12:56 PM Actually SWIFT itself has no such restriction, and Randi has been known to curse in his articles. None the less, it is he who insisted on the rule for the Forum. Clearly it is a "do as I say, not as I do" paradox, but it is what it is. I understand that. I pointed it out for people who may not be aware of the inconsistency. While I have no reason to doubt the claim the Mr. Randi doesn't want profanity, I have little reason to believe it is for the reasons he stated. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Tricky Date : 29th May 2010 01:54 PM It is true that the rules in SWIFT are different from the rules in the forum. It is also true that the fact that Randi wants it one way in one of his avenues of communication and a different way in another may not make logical sense. But that's the way it is. I make no secret of the fact that I disagree with the cursing rules, though I have agreed to enforce them. I personally (i.e. "not as mod") feel that the civility rules can handle any egregiously insulting stuff. But I do not doubt Randi's explanation of his reasons. I even understand them, though I still disagree with them. And it's his foundation. I play by the rules he sets. All members need to do that, even if they disagree with them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : arthwollipot Date : 29th May 2010 02:24 PM Randi wants it this way. Swearing is for wimps. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : LashL Date : 29th May 2010 02:27 PM And since the OP has been answered, the thread is being closed. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from JREF Forum (http://forums.randi.org) at 5th June 2010 04:07 PM.
